6. How do I take care of my new tattoo?
Taking care of a new tattoo is crucial to ensure it heals properly and looks its best. Here are some general aftercare steps you can follow:
Keep it Clean: Gently wash your tattoo with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing or soaking the tattoo.
Apply Ointment: Use a thin layer of a recommended tattoo ointment or unscented moisturizer to keep the tattoo hydrated. Your tattoo artist will likely provide specific product recommendations.
Avoid Picking or Scratching: As the tattoo heals, it might itch or peel. Resist the urge to pick or scratch to prevent infection and scarring.
Stay Out of the Sun: Direct sunlight can fade and damage a new tattoo. Keep it covered or use a high SPF sunscreen once it's fully healed.
Avoid Submerging: Stay out of pools, hot tubs, and bathtubs until your tattoo is completely healed to prevent infections.
Wear Loose Clothing: Tight clothing can rub against your tattoo and irritate it. Opt for loose, breathable fabrics instead.
Listen to Your Tattoo Artist: Follow any additional advice or instructions provided by your tattoo artist, as they know best how to care for their specific work.
Remember, every tattoo and every person's skin is different, so always consult with your tattoo artist for the best aftercare routine tailored to your new ink.
